Der Codex Manesse (auch Manessische Liederhandschrift, Manessische Handschrift, Große Heidelberger Liederhandschrift oder Pariser Handschrift) ist die umfangreichste und berühmteste deutsche Liederhandschrift des Mittelalters. Heute wird sie in der Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg aufbewahrt (Sie besteht aus 426 Pergamentblättern im Format 35,5 x 25 cm.
Die „Manessische Liederhandschrift“ enthält ausschließlich dichterische Werke in mittelhochdeutscher Sprache. Sie entstand um 1300 in Zürich, wahrscheinlich im Zusammenhang mit der Sammeltätigkeit der Zürcher Patrizierfamilie Manesse, nach der sie auch ihren heutigen Beinamen trägt. Der Kodex gilt als repräsentative Summe des mittelalterlichen Laienliedes und bildet für den „nachklassischen“ Minnesang die Haupt- und weithin die einzige Quelle. Die insgesamt 138 Miniaturen, welche die Dichter der Werke in idealisierter Form bei höfischen Aktivitäten darstellen, gelten als bedeutendes Dokument oberrheinischer gotischer Buchmalerei.

These are images from the Maciejowski Bible, the "Holy Grail" for most medievalists. It is our presumption that you, the medievalist, given the choice between clear, detailed images or rapid "speed-loading" images would prefer to see these images clearly rather be overly concerned with how rapidly they loaded. Therefore, we have scanned these images with a resolution suited to providing you with clear, detailed imagery, but not necessarily suited to rapid loading. It is our guess that you will not mind waiting a few seconds longer in order to gain clear, distinctive Maciejowski imagery. You will also find that these images will print out surprisingly well, provided you set your printer's print quality up to it's highest setting.
